Electrical Design Engineer

Department: Engineering
Reports to: Project Operations Director
Location: Hinkley Point C Site
Security Clearance: BPSS (Baseline Personnel Security Standard)
Working Hours: 37 hours per week
Salary: £65,000 - £70,000 + £5,420 car allowance
Benefits: 25 days holiday, 5.75% pension contribution, optional 5-day work week or 9-day fortnight
Expenses: Travel and accommodation reimbursed

Job Purpose
Mactech Energy Group, in partnership with our industry-leading client at Hinkley Point C, is seeking a skilled Electrical Design Engineer. This role involves designing and implementing temporary electrical building services, ensuring technical assurance, compliance, and safe handover for operational service. The role aligns with project timelines and budget requirements to uphold high standards.

Key Responsibilities

Design Integration & Compliance: Develop and implement electrical design solutions, ensuring compliance with health, safety, and sustainability standards. Collaborate closely with the Principal Designer and Contractor to align with Construction (Design and Management) regulations.
Electrical Building Services: Deliver design solutions for systems including 690V AC and 400V AC distribution, emergency lighting, sockets, equipment supplies, fire detection, and other support solutions for Hinkley Point C's Common Building Services (CBS).
Documentation & Vendor Compliance: Create and review essential design documentation—specifications, datasheets, calculations, schedules, drawings—and ensure vendor compliance with project specifications.
Risk Assessment: Conduct design risk assessments, communicate residual risks, and propose robust, innovative solutions.
Collaborative Design Review: Support the Design Manager in construction reviews, sign-offs, and ensure seamless integration of services in final designs.

Key Deliverables
Complete and accurate design documentation (specifications, datasheets, schedules, drawings)
Compliance-focused design reviews and risk assessments
Technical support to the team and clients, fostering a collaborative approach to meet project standards


Minimum Qualifications & Experience
Education: Minimum HNC/HND in Electrical Installation Services
Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Teams, SharePoint), knowledge of Trimble Pro Design, Dialux EVO 10.1, and AutoCAD 2020 (preferred)
Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of CDM regulations, electrical codes of practice, and design duties
Experience: Proven experience in delivering electrical design solutions, preferably in construction or a regulated environment
