Job Purpose / Overview

The Construction Delivery Lead (CDL) forms part of the Construction Delivery Team embedded within the Construction Delivery Group. See Construction Delivery Group Organisational Note and oversees the construction activities carried out by the Tier 1 contract partners. The CDL reports to the Senior Construction Delivery Manager (SCDM) and is supported by the Construction Delivery Manager(s) (CDM). In collaboration with SCDM, CDM and the rest of the HPC Delivery Team, the CDL is responsible for the planning, coordination, and implementation of assigned construction activities to manage the interfaces between adjoining sections of the project.

The CDL is expected to adhere to (and suggest enhancements and improvements) to company policies, procedures, and protocols to ensure the project's safety, environmental, quality standards and schedule milestones are achieved. The Construction Delivery Lead should look to be out on site 50% of their time and in the Office 50%, attending/leading/chairing meetings and producing reports etc, along with general admin. This ratio is for guidance only and subject to change, either way, due to circumstance at any given point.

Contextual Information

Hinkley Point C is a nuclear site in West Somerset, and its vision is to build two major EPR nuclear plants. The Construction Delivery Lead will specifically oversee the construction within the Nuclear Island (NI) area, including Units 1 & 2 (N1, N2, and N3). As this project is massive in scale and complexity, we're looking for someone with experience in delivering large projects under challenging constraints.

Principal Accountabilities

As a Construction Delivery Lead, you will:

  • Site Leadership: Split your time between on-site oversight (50%) and office-based planning (50%), managing the construction activities of Tier 1 contract partners across the Nuclear Island (Unit 1 & 2).
  • Team Management: Lead and develop a team of Construction Delivery Managers (CDMs), ensuring they have the tools, training, and guidance to succeed in their roles.
  • Health & Safety: Champion safety culture and enforce compliance with CDM Regulations 2015, NNB Construction Phase Plans, and other safety protocols, undertaking inspections and audits.
  • Stakeholder Coordination: Work closely with Multi-Disciplinary Teams (MDT), including Senior Project Managers, to ensure smooth project execution and adherence to contractual obligations.
  • Meetings & Reporting: Lead daily and weekly meetings such as Plan of the Week (PLOW) and Plan of the Day (PLOD) sessions, ensuring alignment between contractors and project timelines.
  • Problem Solving & Risk Mitigation: Proactively manage risks, safety concerns, and logistics challenges to maintain project continuity.
  • Compliance & Documentation: Oversee the review of contractor-submitted documentation, such as Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) and ensure that all construction activities are compliant with relevant safety standards.

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience

Essential:

  • Degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management (or equivalent).
  • Strong experience managing large-scale civil construction projects, ideally in sectors with stringent safety and regulatory requirements (nuclear or high-security projects highly desirable).
  • NEBOSH, SMSTS, or IOSH
  • Proven track record in overseeing strategic planning, construction sequencing, and resource management.
  • Ability to manage multiple stakeholders, prioritise competing demands, and make informed decisions under pressure.
  • A solid understanding of CDM Regulations and the ability to uphold high safety standards across complex work environments.

Desirable:

  • Experience in the nuclear sector or other high-security environments.
  • French language skills can be advantageous.
  • Experience with major civil works such as nuclear island construction, large mechanical erections, and civil engineering installations.

Are you ready to be part of a project that's reshaping the energy landscape of the UK? This is your opportunity to make a significant impact on the construction of Hinkley Point C. If you have the skills and experience to lead this challenging endeavour, we want to hear from you.
