Job Title:
Welding Superintendent

Description & Background:
Hinkley Point C (HPC) is building two new nuclear reactors, the first in a new generation of nuclear power stations in the UK providing low-carbon electricity for around six million homes. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Welding Superintendent to join the project, supporting the Subject Matter Expert (SME) Team in the Joint Design Office (JDO) and HPC Delivery Directorate in planning and delivering welding and allied activities.

Responsibilities:

  • Liaise with key stakeholders within NNB and Contract Partners to guide welding and associated activities
  • Ensure Contract Partners understand and meet welding excellence requirements
  • Verify welders are adequately trained and aware of site and UK-specific regulations
  • Ensure welding operations are conducted in an environment that ensures quality and minimizes defects
  • Design and propose solutions to welding and welding-related activities
  • Understand and correct errors, and foresee common error traps
  • Explore opportunities for improvements in welding and associated processes
  • Rigorously control essential safety requirements
  • Assist Contract Partners in overcoming difficulties and challenges
  • Compile statistics for welding and erection-related activities for continuous improvement
  • Report to the SME Team Leader on welding, pipework erection, and metallurgical controls


Experience Required:

  • Expert Welding Engineer with experience leading welding activities on large projects
  • Significant experience in welding and erection activities on large projects
  • Proven ability to engage Senior Management and stakeholders
  • Ability to contribute to managing a high-performing team
  • Sympathetic and observant work presence that gains respect and cooperation
  • Ability to write informative, concise, and meaningful reports
  • Education to degree level or proven record of academic knowledge in mechanical/materials subjects (HND or NVQ level 4 acceptable)
  • Understanding of Quality Management Systems and ISO 9001 standard application
  • Previous experience in the nuclear or similarly regulated industry

• Hinkley Point C Site

Salary + Hours:
• Full-time, 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday
• £610 per day via UMBRELLA

This is a long-term contract that will give you an opportunity to contribute to a major nuclear construction project, working within the Delivery Directorate on one of the UK's most significant infrastructure projects.
