Job Purpose / Overview

About the Project

Hinkley Point C (HPC) is the first new nuclear power station in the UK in over a generation. As part of the site construction team, you will be at the forefront of delivering a major infrastructure project with complex engineering challenges and world-class standards.

Principal Accountabilities

As an NNB Surveillance Field Engineer, you will ensure that construction activities meet the highest

quality, safety, and compliance standards. Your role will focus on construction surveillance, NEC Supervisor duties, and quality control across designated sections of the project.

Key Responsibilities:

Surveillance & Compliance

Conduct continuous, notified, and planned surveillance of contractor activities.

Ensure works are completed in line with NEC contract requirements and HPC quality expectations.

Identify and report non-conformance issues, assisting in corrective actions.

Quality & Technical Oversight

Ensure construction aligns with approved risk assessments, method statements, and designs.

Verify contractor performance against Quality Control Plans.

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of BS, NEC ECC, and FIDIC contract requirements.

Stakeholder Collaboration

Work closely with Construction Superintendents and Tier 1 Contractors to mitigate risks.

Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams, ensuring smooth project execution.

Provide technical guidance on quality matters and help drive a strong safety culture.

Continuous Improvement

Monitor and enhance site-wide quality assurance.

Identify potential quality issues before they arise to enable proactive solutions.

Suggest and implement process improvements for increased efficiency.

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience

  • Proven Experience in construction surveillance and quality control on large-scale infrastructure projects.
  • Strong knowledge of NEC ECC & FIDIC contracts, BS standards, and CDM Regulations.
  • Background in civil, mechanical, or electrical engineering, ideally within the nuclear, power, or major infrastructure sectors.
  • Excellent organisation, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lead, influence, and collaborate in a high-pressure environment.
  • Minimum HND in Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).

Additional Requirements:

  • Experience in the installation and erection of large civil works, mechanical, or electrical plant.
  • Strong report writing skills with the ability to produce accurate and concise site diaries.
  • Willingness to complete the HPC Clerk of Works training programme.
