Astute's Nuclear team is partnering with a world class engineering company providing products and services to meet the needs of their customers for engineered solutions to high temperature/thermal engineering problems. They are recruiting an HSE Lead for its Hinkley Point C project on a full time, permanent basis.

The HSE Lead role is pivotal to the site operations and comes with a base salary of 89,100, accommodation allowances, travel expenses, overtime with a potential earning of 130,000 per annum (while on 10-12 hour shifts) and 28 days annual leave + bank holidays.

Responsibilities and duties

Reporting to the Senior Project Manager you will:

  • Develop and update HSE policies and procedures to align with organisational and project standards.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate workplace hazards to ensure employee and environmental protection.
  • Conduct safety training, drills, and campaigns to promote HSE compliance and awareness.
  • Investigate incidents, implement corrective actions, and report findings to stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with local, national, and international safety and environmental regulations.
  • Analyse HSE data and trends to improve performance, set KPIs, and drive proactive measures.
  • Chair monthly safety committee meetings and deliver toolbox talks to teams of up to 60 people.
  • Review and manage documentation such as RAMS, VTS, COSHH assessments, and confined space plans to ensure safe operations.

Professional qualifications

We are looking for someone with the following:

  • Minimum 10 years' experience in HSE role, with a minimum of 5 years working as a HSE Manager
  • NEBOSH General Certificate
  • Bachelor's Degree, NEBOSH Diploma, NVQ level 6, or equivalent within Health and Safety
  • SMSTS
  • Experience of working in a HSE capacity on a construction site or high risk environment
  • Good working knowledge of welding fume and associated occupational health hazards
  • Good working knowledge of The Confined Spaces Regulations 1997.
  • Knowledge of fabrication and welding practices is advantageous

Personal skills

The HSE Lead role would suit someone who is:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Good IT literacy.
  • Ability to engage and maintain strong relationships with various stakeholders e.g. client, management, and workforce.

  • A base salary of 89,100 (46.10 an hour across a 38-hour week).
  • Overtime availability (3-5 hours daily at 46.10).
