Brierley Hill, West Midlands (with travel to Barnsley & Cardiff)

£40,000 - £50,000 per annum (dependent on experience) + Car allowance or Company Car

We are seeking an experienced Senior Operations Manager to oversee the daily operations of three key discount retail stores located in Brierley Hill,  Cardiff, and Barnsley. The role is based in Brierley Hill with travel required to the other locations. You will be responsible for driving operational excellence, ensuring efficient store management, and leading a team of store managers to deliver exceptional customer service and meet business goals.

The Candidate

  • Retail Management Experience: Proven experience in managing retail stores, with a minimum of 5 years in a senior management or multi-site management role within a fast-paced retail environment.
  • Leadership & Team Development: Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop a team of managers and front-line employees.
  • Operational Expertise: In-depth knowledge of retail operations, including staffing, stock management, customer service, health & safety, and budgeting.
  • Commercial Acumen: Ability to analyze and drive performance against KPIs, with experience managing budgets and controlling costs.
  • Customer-Focused: Passion for delivering exceptional customer experiences and a keen understanding of customer needs and expectations.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels of the business.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills, with the ability to handle operational challenges quickly and effectively.
  • Adaptability: Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, balancing the demands of multiple stores across different locations.
  • Driver’s License: Full UK driving license and access to a vehicle for travel to stores in Cardiff and Barnsley.

Key Responsibilities

  • Store Operations Management: Oversee the day-to-day operations of three retail stores, ensuring all processes run smoothly and in line with company standards.
  • Leadership & Development: Lead and motivate a team of store managers to ensure high levels of performance, customer service, and staff engagement. Provide guidance, coaching, and training as needed.
  • Performance Monitoring: Regularly review store performance against KPIs (sales, stock levels, customer satisfaction) and implement action plans to address any gaps or opportunities.
  • Budgeting & Cost Control: Manage store budgets, including staffing costs, stock levels, and other operational expenses. Ensure the stores operate efficiently within budgetary constraints.
  • Health & Safety Compliance: Ensure all stores comply with health and safety regulations, providing a safe shopping environment for both customers and employees.
  • Customer Experience: Focus on delivering an outstanding in-store experience for customers, ensuring stores are consistently stocked, well-organized, and clean, with excellent customer service.
  • Stock Management: Oversee stock control, deliveries, and merchandising to ensure that product availability and presentation are at optimum levels.
  • Reporting & Analysis: Report to senior management on store performance, operational challenges, and opportunities for improvement. Provide regular updates on key operational metrics.
  • Strategic Planning: Collaborate with regional and senior leadership to align store operations with company objectives, contributing to the growth and development of the retail business.
  • Travel & Flexibility: Regular travel to the Cardiff and Barnsley stores to provide hands-on support and ensure consistency across all locations.
