Position: Learning Support Assistant
Start Date: January 2025 (Term-Time Only)
Working Hours: Monday - Thursday, 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM; Friday, 8:30 AM - 2:30 PM

We are looking for Specialist Learning Support Assistants to join a specialist setting in Calderdale.

This school caters to primary and secondary-aged students, ranging from 5 to 16 years old, who have been identified with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and associated challenging behaviors. The students have a range of complex learning needs and traumas, including Autism, Foetal Alcohol Syndrome, ADHD, and Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs). The school tailors its support to the individual needs and learning plans of each student, and you will be an essential part of the team in providing this support.

The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have prior experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs. Level 2 Team Teach training is desirable, although this can be provided by our in-house trainers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support students and create a safe, friendly, and engaging learning environment.
  • Understand and follow individual Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs) and Individual Learning Plans (ILPs).
  • Adapt support strategies to meet the needs of vulnerable young people.

Due to the nature of this role, candidates must be UK residents living locally. Please note that we are unable to offer visa sponsorship for overseas applicants.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • A minimum of a Grade C (or equivalent, Level 4-9) in English and Maths.
  • A passion for education.
  • Experience supporting and working with children and young people in a school environment.
  • Ability to engage positively with groups of children.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
