The role

We are looking to recruit a Transport & Logistics Manager to join the team here at Quickslide.

You will have responsibility of overseeing the safe and cost-effective utilisation of all drivers, loaders and equipment on site, ensuring that the customer service requirements are fully met and in line with the business objectives.

You will perform well under pressure and have experience of dealing with difficult situations.

You will be able to organise your own workload and set priorities and actions to reach objectives while being able to plan and optimise time efficiently and effectively.

Safety is integral in this role and a great knowledge of transport compliance and health and safety is essential.

As part of this role, you will be covering all aspects of the transport yard, you will need to be administrative, hands-on, and strategic and be able to communicate and manage across all levels.

You must be a confident and competent decision maker with the ability to problem solve and think innovatively.

You must be prepared to get your hands dirty whilst also understanding how to report and manage your own suit of KPIs such as budget control, transport planning, and fleet maintenance.

You will be responsible for KPI's ensuring site spending remains in line with budgets and fuel efficiency and ensuring that contract-specific targets are met or exceeded.

The responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to:

  • Planning, costing, and allocating routes and vehicles, ensuring sufficient flexibility is in place to meet the varying and changing needs of the customers.
  • Auditing and managing department administration.
  • Ensure that all in-house vehicles are compliant with all legal, regulatory, and contractual requirements and where necessary escalate issues and make recommendations to the Commercial Director.
  • Develop and implement a proactive, planned, and structured approach to the maintenance of fleet vehicles, keeping within the designated budget and ensuring all vehicles used are fit for purpose and the customer experience is of a high standard.
  • Ensuring transport staff deliver the service appropriate to the changing needs of customers in line with relevant guidance and individual risk assessments.
  • Manage and develop a team of drivers and loaders, who may be working remotely, either alone or in small teams, in order to deliver a high-quality service to customers.
  • Take the lead in resolving unforeseen problems as they arise ensuring appropriate resolution of these and to utilise the learning to plan for future similar scenarios.
  • Undertake delegated tasks and responsibilities in line with the emerging needs and operational requirements of the service, including where necessary the contracting out of transport provision to other transport providers (back loads).
  • Ensuring high standards of service delivery through the consistent application of recognised standards and established policies, procedures, and practices. To work in a safe and effective manner at all times.

Qualifications:

  • Management qualification CPC
  • Licence to drive in the UK.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Experience in a similar role in the transport sector, including supervision of staff.
  • Confident decision-making skills.
  • Experience in managing budgets & contracts.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Proven ability to plan and navigate journeys confidently.
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Fleet management
  • Ability to work logically and systematically.
  • Good analytical skills with a high degree of numeracy
  • Computer literate Microsoft Office in particular strong skills in Microsoft Excel.
  • Previous experience of leading a team within a Logistics Distribution environment.
  • Excellent people management skills
  • Have the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong knowledge of transport compliance including an understanding of Driver Hours Regulations.
