About the Role:

We are seeking a skilled and proactive Maintenance Engineer to join the team at a leading manufacturer in the chemical industry. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing factory equipment to ensure optimal efficiency and safety. You will play a crucial part in developing and implementing a preventative maintenance program aimed at reducing downtime, minimising waste, and cutting costs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preventative Maintenance: Develop and manage a preventative maintenance schedule, addressing system weaknesses and implementing improvements.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Maintain and repair steam boilers, pressure vessels, and other factory equipment. Coordinate periodic inspections with relevant inspectors.
  • Parts Management: Order and manage spare parts inventory, ensuring all purchases align with company budgets.
  • New Installations: Fit and test new parts and machinery, ensuring all equipment is safe and operational before use.
  • Emergency Repairs: Respond quickly to urgent breakdowns, providing on-site fixes or arranging for replacements.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with production teams, external engineers, and suppliers to prevent and resolve downtime issues.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities for auditing and inspection purposes.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Qualifications: NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in an engineering discipline, with a strong mechanical bias (80% mechanical).
  • Experience: Solid background in mechanical engineering, including hydraulics, pneumatics, motors, pumps, and gearboxes. Experience with steam boilers, pressure vessels, and welding (MMA mandatory; TIG and MIG preferred) is highly desirable.
  • Skills: Basic electrical knowledge, and proficiency in pipe fitting.
  • Personal Attributes: Self-motivated with a strong determination to succeed. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Flexible, with good time management and leadership skills.

Working Hours:

  • Standard hours are 40 per week, Monday to Friday, from 7:00 am to 4:30 pm.
  • Occasional weekend work may be required, with up to 8 hours per month paid at time and a half on top of salary.
  • Flexibility for overtime in case of emergencies is essential.
