About the Opportunity:

Building Careers is pleased to be working with a leading regional contractor on a high-profile new build affordable housing development in Brighouse. This is an exceptional opportunity for a highly experienced and commercially astute Senior Quantity Surveyor to take a leading role in the successful delivery of this significant project.

The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all commercial aspects of the project, providing strategic direction and leadership to the commercial team. This role offers a high level of autonomy and the chance to make a substantial contribution to the company's continued success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing overall commercial leadership and direction for the project.
  • Developing and implementing commercial strategies to maximize profitability and minimize risk.
  • Overseeing the preparation of accurate cost plans, budgets, and forecasts.
  • Managing the procurement process, including negotiation and contract management with subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Leading the management of subcontractor accounts, valuations, and payments.
  • Overseeing the preparation and submission of valuations to the client, ensuring timely payment and accurate reporting.
  • Monitoring and controlling project costs, proactively identifying and mitigating potential risks and opportunities.
  • Managing variations and change control processes effectively.
  • Preparing comprehensive cost reports and providing insightful commercial advice to the project director and senior management team.
  • Leading and mentoring junior members of the commercial team, providing guidance and support for their professional development.
  • Ensuring compliance with contractual obligations, company policies, and best practice.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and other key stakeholders.

Essential Requirements:

  • A relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying or a related field (e.g., Degree, RICS accredited).
  • Extensive experience as a Quantity Surveyor, with a proven track record of successfully managing large-scale projects within the construction industry, ideally within residential or social housing.
  • A deep understanding of construction methods, materials, contract law, and commercial management principles.
  • Exceptional commercial acumen, negotiation skills, and strategic thinking abilities.
  • Excellent IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (especially advanced Excel skills) and demonstrable experience with construction management software (e.g., COINS, Causeway).
  • Outstanding communication, interpersonal, leadership, and team management skills.
  • Ability to work independently, make sound judgments, and take ownership of complex commercial issues.
  • A full UK driving licence.

Desirable Requirements:

  • Experience working on affordable housing projects or similar social infrastructure projects.
  • Membership of a professional body such as the RICS.
