Head of Payroll

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Head of Payroll to join a prestigious university with a workforce of approximately 2,500 staff. This role is pivotal in ensuring the efficient and compliant processing of payroll and pension administration.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the end-to-end payroll function, ensuring accurate and timely processing for all staff.

  • Lead and manage a team of four payroll professionals, providing guidance and support.

  • Ensure compliance with statutory regulations, payroll policies, and university procedures.

  • Administer and manage pension schemes, with a particular focus on LGPS (Local Government Pension Scheme).

  • Maintain and optimise the ResourceLink payroll system, ensuring efficiency and accuracy.

  • Work closely with HR, Finance, and external stakeholders to enhance payroll and pension processes.

  • Provide expert advice on payroll legislation, tax, NI, and pension regulations.

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the payroll function.

Key Requirements:

  • Proven experience in payroll management within a higher education or public sector environment.

  • Strong knowledge of LGPS pensions and other public sector pension schemes.

  • Expertise in ResourceLink payroll system.
