The university of Sussex is currently looking for a Senior CHASE Encounter Conference Officer to join their team. 

Role: Senior CHASE Encounter Conference Officer

Contract: Temp starting Sep 2024 until Dec 2024 (with a possibility to extended couple of weeks)

Working Hours: Part time - Casual work.

Payrate: £17.38 p/h

Working mode: Hybrid or Remote

Role description

Encounters is the bi-annual conference that brings together all CHASE studentship award-holders to share their research in progress, network and socialise

CHASE seeks a Senior Encounters Conference Officer to take responsibility for the 2024 autumn CHASE Encounters programme. You will coordinate:

·         an online Encounters conference programme

·         an in-person Re-Encounters event to align with the 10-year anniversary of CHASE. 

Using your in depth knowledge of research and cohort development events, you will work independently to plan, coordinate, advertise and deliver the autumn 2024 Encounters programme. You will be supported by the CHASE team throughout the role and will liaise with delegates, participants and operational teams in relation to queries and requests.

Essential Criteria

At the later stages (third year onwards) of a CHASE funded PhD, or CHASE alumni

- Well-developed interpersonal skills with the ability to quickly build rapport

- Effective oral and written communications skills to work with colleagues and CHASE researchers, providing information and responding to questions and queries

- Regular attendee of previous Encounters (either online or in person) conferences, with understanding of how to coordinate an engaging programme of events of CHASE doctoral researchers

- Previous experience with conference, workshop or symposium organisation

- Ability to assess problems effectively and make standard minor impact decisions autonomously

Desirable Criteria

- Web design experience (using websites such as Squarespace, WordPress, and similar)

- Previous experience managing budgets

- Previous experience delivering lectures or facilitating workshops at conferences
