Our established client is currently looking to recruit a Public Health Consultant on an initial 5 month contract looking to start ASAP.

The ideal candidate will be required onsite once a week.

The postholder will identify, drive and secure opportunities to enable everyone in Brighton & Hove to have the best opportunity to live a healthy, happy and fulfilling life.

Working closely with colleagues across the council, the NHS, the community & voluntary sector, private sector, local communities and other agencies the post-holder will:

  • Provide professional Public Health leadership to develop population health management in the Integrated Care System (ICS), working closely with colleagues and partners to ensure the approach is embedded in relevant strategies and delivery at place in Brighton & Hove.
  • Lead the local strategy to improve and reduce inequalities in sexual health population outcomes including overseeing the public health commissioning of services in these areas.
  • Lead the local strategy to improve and reduce inequalities in drug and alcohol treatment and recovery outcomes including overseeing the public health commissioning of services in these areas, and leading on the Combatting Drugs Partnership programme.
  • Lead plans and action to develop the local public health workforce
  • Jointly lead the development and delivery of the Health and Wellbeing strategy with public health and other health & care colleagues, contributing across the Starting, Living, Ageing and Dying Well outcomes.
  • Lead the development, implementation and delivery of relevant national, regional and local strategies and policies, developing inter-agency and interdisciplinary strategic plans and programmes, with delegated organisational authority to deliver key public health targets and outcomes.
  • Participate in local health protection delivery as necessary.
  • The key areas of work of all public health consultant posts will remain under review and be adapted in response to the changing requirements of the Covid-19 pandemic response, and the further development of the Integrated Care System.

Key Experience

  • Inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register/GDC Specialist List/UK Public Health Register (UKPHR) for Public Health Specialists
  • Public health specialty registrar applicants who are not yet on the GMC Specialist Register/GDC Specialist List in dental public health/UKPHR must provide verifiable signed documentary evidence that they are within 6 months of gaining entry; all other applicants must provide verifiable signed documentary evidence that they have applied for inclusion in the GMC/GDC/UKPHR specialist registers
  • Demonstrate a high level of understanding of epidemiology and statistics, public health practice, health promotion, health economics and health care evaluation.
  • Understanding of NHS and local government cultures, structures and policies
  • Awareness of models of integrated commissioning
  • Knowledge of methods of developing clinical quality assurance, quality improvement and evidence based clinical and/or public health practice
