Reed Education are supporting a local secondary school in their search for a Head of Geography. This role is to start February 2025 to cover maternity. 

They are seeking an exceptional leader to head their thriving Geography department. This is a pivotal role for someone passionate about Geography, aiming to inspire students and elevate their achievements. 

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Provide effective middle leadership and model excellence within the Geography department.
  • Implement and deliver the School Improvement Plan’s aims specifically tailored to Geography.
  • Oversee a culture of effective and accurate quality assurance to raise standards across the team.
  • Lead the subject area to ensure a high standard of behaviour in all lessons.
  • Support team members in meeting deadlines and adhering to school procedures and policies.
  • Identify training needs within the team and allocate resources to meet these needs.
  • Ensure effective communication within the team and the wider school community.
  • Promote and generate excitement for Geography, enhancing its presence and importance within the school curriculum.
  • Conduct appraisals for relevant staff members.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in educational leadership, particularly within Geography.
  • Strong understanding of curriculum development and quality assurance processes.
  • Ability to lead and inspire a team of educators.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • Commitment to fostering a lifelong love of Geography among students.
  • Ability to strategise and implement effective teaching and learning enhancements.
  • Experience in handling appraisal processes and staff development.
