Estimator - Precision Engineering - Respected and established aerospace & automotive precision engineering company have an opportunity for an estimator.
The Estimator will play a key role in the business, responsible for preparing accurate and competitive quotations for toolmaking and machining projects. This key position requires strong analytical skills, knowledge of machining processes, and the ability to liaise effectively with clients and internal teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Cost Estimation: Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for toolmaking projects based on RFQs, technical drawings, and project specifications.
- Collaboration: Work closely with engineering and production teams to gather necessary information related to project specifications and requirements.
- Analysis: Review and analyse historical data and current project demands to inform cost forecasting and estimation strategies.
- Client Interaction: Communicate with clients to clarify project requirements and to provide comprehensive information regarding quotes and timelines.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify and recommend cost-saving measures and process improvements without compromising quality or safety standards.
- Documentation: Maintain thorough documentation of all estimations, cost analyses, and related communications for future reference and auditing purposes.
- Team Support: Assist in training junior estimators and provide ongoing support to the estimating team as required.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Proven experience as an Estimator in the toolmaking, machining, or precision engineering sectors.
- Strong understanding of machining processes, CNC capabilities, materials, and tooling.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings and specifications.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen eye for detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage with clients and colleagues.
- Proficient in the use of estimating software and MS Office Suite, particularly Excel.
Qualifications:
- A relevant qualification in Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related field would be an advantage but experience is key.
- Experience with CAD software for interpreting technical drawings is advantageous.
- Previous experience in a similar role within a toolmaking environment is highly desirable.
