Field Service Engineer

Manchester / Bristol / North London / Sheffield

c45k - 50k neg dep exp + vehicle + benefits

Our client is a leading developer and asset manager of utility scale energy storage solutions, and as a result of continued success and an ongoing programme of strategic growth as the UK strives to achieve net zero emission levels, are now seeking to recruit a number of multi skilled field service engineer professionals to undertake PPM and reactive breakdown repair and commissioning activities on a range of energy storage units at BESS sites throughout the UK (with positions available in Manchester, Sheffield, Bristol and North London).

Reporting to the OM Manager, the successful field service engineer candidates will be tasked with undertaking fault find, diagnosis and repair duties as well as PPM and continuous improvement exercises on a range of equipment, maintaining Energy Storage Systems to a high standard by carrying out regular inspection and maintenance, and performing annual capacity tests, trouble shooting and reactive maintenance works as they may arise.

Additionally responsible for implementing system software and firmware upgrades when required, you will oversee all aspects of operation performance monitoring and data assessment and provide telephone technical support and remote diagnostics to customers where applicable, and in the event that this fails to resolve the issue, attending the BESS site and undertaking repairs at customer premises.

Other duties for these varied and challenging field service engineer positions will include (but not be limited to):

  • Managing spare parts and your vehicle inventory
  • Working safely at all times and ensuring compliance with local safety regulations and relevant safety standards (eg BS7671)
  • Conducting risk assessments and implementing safety measures where necessary
  • Keeping up to date with administrative duties such as timesheets, daily vehicle checks and providing accurate daily job reports detailing issues and actions taken during service trips
  • Assisting with the in-house system engineering group in product development and/or project work
  • Providing suggestions based on field experience, to improve the product portfolio

It is envisaged that the successful field service engineer candidates will be qualified to at least C&G2391 Inspection and Test / HNC level or above in a relevant electrical / electro-mechanical discipline and demonstrate at least 3 years' experience of working in a multi skilled maintenance or service capacity. With good IT skills (the MS Suite of packages) and an understanding of networking and remote desktop connections, you will also hold qualifications for working safely on Site, and as the role involves travelling to different sites around the UK, overnight stays or international travel may be required and a full UK driving licence is therefore essential for the position.

Previous knowledge and experience of working on BESS sites will prove distinctly advantageous, as will a working knowledge of HV/LV power electronics including inverters / converters / Transformers and previous HVAC training and F-Gas qualifications, although training can be provided.
