Are you an experienced Accountant looking for the next challenge in your career? My client is looking for someone with Local Authority technical accounting experience. You will play a key role in the annual close-down, audit liaison, management of collection fund and statutory returns.

As the Chief Technical Accountant you will have responsibility for providing comprehensive support to senior stakeholders within the organisation and work collaboratively across the finance function. You will play a significant role in improving financial control and contribute to strategic and operational developments.

Key responsibilities of the Chief Technical Accountant

  • Lead on annual close-down and statutory returns
  • Liaise with external auditors
  • Manage the collection fund and rates budget processes
  • Provide support to senior stakeholders and work collaboratively across the finance function
  • Identify and develop initiatives to improve financial control and governance
  • Contribute to strategic and operational developments
  • Provide confident leadership to support effective operational delivery

Required skills and experience of the Chief Technical Accountant

  • CCAB qualified or equivalent
  • Strong knowledge of technical accounting within a local authority
  • Knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards, SORP and Code of Practice
  • Understanding of Council Tax Collection Fund accounting
  • Excellent leadership and relationship building skills
