LB214 - Design Engineer (Structures)

Salary: £50,000 - £65,000

Overview:

First Military Recruitment are currently seeking a Design Engineer on behalf of one of our clients.

You will be responsible for undertaking civil, structural and geotechnical design / checking & method development tasks from client briefs with supervision.

Our client encourages applications from ex-military personnel however all candidates will be given due consideration.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Promotes company to internal and external clients.
  • Is actively progressing towards CEng MICE / MIStructE registration.
  • Regularly & diligently communicates with their supervising engineer to ensure that they understand the task being undertaken and that the task develops efficiently and in line with projected timescale and budget.
  • Assists junior and lessor experienced engineers and technicians.
  • Undertakes civil, structural and geotechnical design / checking & method development tasks from client briefs with regular supervision. Develops concept and detailed design approaches using appropriate tools to suit the complexity of the task.
  • Uses their knowledge, skills and experience to identify and implement practical, cost effective and safe solutions with due diligence, skill and care in accordance with statutory legislation, the suite of Eurocodes and other approved industry body guidance and established best practice.
  • Has working knowledge of industry standard structural/geotechnical software packages with a basic understanding of their limitations as well as capability of producing sketches to scale by hand and/or using CAD.
  • Understands applicable legislation and in particular The Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015.
  • Uses knowledge and experience to identify and mitigate health, safety and environmental risks.
  • Considers whether the methods adopted provide a safe system of work and are adequately documented.
  • Undertakes design risks assessments so that risks are designed out where possible. Ensures all residual risks are communicated via drawings.


Skills and Qualifications:

  • BEng (Hons) degree in civil, structural, or geotechnical engineering.
  • CITB Construction Skills Certification Scheme Card.
  • Evidence of commitment to continued professional development via relevant industry courses, training & seminars.
  • Typically, a minimum of 2 years relevant post graduate experience.
  • Good working understanding of basic design tools & methods.
  • Understanding of fundamental engineering principles, physics and statics.
  • Mainstream construction and demolition methods.


Desirable:

  • MEng (Hons) degree in civil, structural or geotechnical engineering.
  • MSc degree in civil, structural or geotechnical engineering.
  • Basic understanding of complex design tools (e.g., 3D finite element analysis).
