Founded in 2000, my client has steadily expanded by building strong partnerships with consultants, contractors, and sub-contractors to offer a wide fleet of foundation techniques to a range of organisations. They take pride in their ability to design, plan, and safely execute ground improvement and piling solutions tailored to meet the specific needs of each project.Your new role

  • Review site investigations, and assess appropriate piling solutions, with particular focus on conversion to Ground Improvement methods.
  • With Engineering Manager and Senior Engineer assistance, prepare tender stage design calculations, sufficient to inform an efficient estimate.
  • Obtain plant hire, mobilisation and material purchase prices, sufficient to inform an efficient estimate.
  • Prepare a detailed offer, using standard estimating templates, amended as required to ensure the offer is appropriately site specific.
  • Submit piling estimates directly to the Client.
  • Submit ground improvement estimates to the Sales Manager.
  • Attend tender stage site visits where necessary to fully inform the tendering process.
  • Respond to Client's tender queries, and amend the estimate where necessary.
  • Actively follow up piling tenders, targeting the securing of work required to achieve monthly turnover budget requirements.
  • Engage in design and estimating discussions with the wider Engineering and Project Management teams, to promote knowledge sharing and ongoing process improvement.
  • Attend pre-let meetings with Commercial Manager wherever practical.
  • Liaise with Project Manager and Works Manager to ensure work won is programmed in a timely fashion, following standard procedures.
  • Prepare handover documentation, including project booking form, project start-up sheet, materials allocation sheet, and other standard letters.
  • Request construction issue information in a timely fashion prior to the target commencement date.
  • With Engineering Manager and Senior Engineer assistance, prepare and issue detailed design calculation packages for Client comments.
  • Update designs and schedules where required, as a result of post contract award/post design submission client-side changes.
  • Value post contract award variations and design changes, and confirm cost and programme implications with the Client.
  • Attend site to review progress, particularly on technically difficult/sensitive sites.
  • Carry out contract review whilst on site, using standard forms.
  • Assist Commercial Manager with monthly valuations and final account discussions.
  • Complete design revisions where required, owing to design changes occurring as work is in progress - piles added, changes in ground conditions, etc.
  • Assist with the ambition to move towards digital processes.
  • Be empowered to suggest and implement change throughout the design and estimating processes.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Relevant undergraduate degree, Masters is desirable.
  • Experience in a related industry; contaminated land, geotechnical solutions, engineering estimation etc.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to be exceptionally organised to deliver works on time.
  • Able to develop lasting relationships with clients externally and colleagues internally.
  • Be meticulous in preparing handover documentation and updating designs and schedules as required.
  • Willingness to attend site to review progress, particularly on technically difficult or sensitive sites.
  • Show enthusiasm when engaging in discussions to promote knowledge sharing and ongoing process improvement.
  • IT literate

Desirable:

  • Experience in obtaining plant hire, mobilisation, and material purchase prices, and preparing detailed offers using standard estimating templates.
  • Ability to liaise with Project Managers and Works Managers to ensure timely programming of work.
  • Strong ability to assess site investigations and determine appropriate piling and ground improvement solutions.
  • Capable of valuing post-contract award variations and design changes, and confirming cost and programme implications with clients.
  • Actively follow up on piling tenders to secure work and achieve monthly turnover targets.
