We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Project Engineer to join our dynamic engineering team within an industrial FMCG environment. The successful candidate will play a key role in managing and delivering mechanical engineering projects, focusing on pipe laying, machine and pipe de-commissioning, and re-commissioning, while ensuring strong stakeholder communication and adherence to safety and regulatory standards. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, ensuring project goals are achieved on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead mechanical engineering projects from concept through to delivery, ensuring timely completion and adherence to budget.
- Coordinate and oversee the installation, commissioning, and decommissioning of mechanical systems and machinery in line with project requirements.
- Manage pipework laying and other mechanical installations, ensuring compliance with industry standards and safety regulations.
- Develop detailed project plans, including resource allocation, timelines, and budget tracking, ensuring milestones are met.
- Collaborate with stakeholders including internal teams, external contractors, and suppliers to ensure alignment and smooth project execution.
- Communicate technical requirements clearly to non-technical stakeholders and ensure effective communication throughout the project lifecycle.
- Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues during machine de-commissioning and re-commissioning processes.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations throughout the project lifecycle.
- Provide technical support and guidance to junior engineers and other team members.
- Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including drawings, reports, and other technical documents.
- Monitor project progress and adjust plans as necessary to address challenges and minimise project delays.
Key Requirements:
- Qualification: UK Level 3 Mechanical Qualification (e.g., City & Guilds, NVQ Level 3, or equivalent).
- Proven experience as an Mechanical Project Engineer within an industrial FMCG setting.
- Strong exposure to pipework laying, machine decommissioning and re-commissioning, and mechanical system installations.
- Solid experience in managing and delivering mechanical engineering projects on time, within scope, and within budget.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong knowledge of relevant industry standards, health and safety regulations, and electrical codes.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to troubleshooting and resolving technical issues.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating leadership in managing project teams and contractors.
- Valid UK driving license and willingness to travel to different sites if required.
Desirable Skills and Qualifications:
- Experience with project management tools and software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera).
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles or Continuous Improvement methodologies.
- Experience in managing multi-disciplinary projects involving both electrical and mechanical systems.
