Role Summary:

The Health and Safety Manager will collaborate with the Wellbeing Lead and Principal Designer Lead, contributing to an 8-year energy infrastructure program. This role is crucial in ensuring the health and safety of workers and communities across a vast operational area, covering pre-construction, ground investigations, and environmental work for up to 10 major projects over the next five years.

This is not just a compliance role; we are seeking a Technical Health and Safety Manager capable of developing new procedures, executing technical work, and engaging directly with clients. The ideal candidate will be innovative and proactive, driving improvements and taking ownership of health and safety strategies from inception.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Technical Leadership: Develop and implement comprehensive health and safety procedures, ensuring they are tailored to the unique needs of each project and align with industry-leading standards.
  • Safety Advocacy: Promote a culture of health, safety, and environmental excellence through continuous improvement and innovative approaches.
  • Client Engagement: Build strong relationships with clients, acting as a trusted advisor on health and safety matters, and ensuring their expectations are met and exceeded.
  • SH&E Promotion: Develop and oversee behavioural safety campaigns, assess results, and refine initiatives for maximum effectiveness.
  • Expert Guidance: Provide comprehensive health, safety, and environmental advice to project teams and stakeholders, ensuring technical accuracy and practical application.
  • Collaboration: Build a cohesive team environment, working closely with contractors to implement and enhance safety protocols.
  • Reporting: Prepare detailed reports on project status, performance, and safety improvements.
  • Assurance: Oversee compliance with assurance programs, ensuring adherence across all projects.
  • Incident Management: Conduct thorough investigations into incidents, ensuring resolution and integration of lessons learned for future prevention.
Qualifications and Skills:
  • Extensive experience as a Health and Safety Manager in energy, construction, or pre-construction projects.
  • Chartered IOSH membership or equivalent professional certification.
  • Demonstrable experience in writing procedures, executing technical health and safety work, and engaging directly with clients.
  • Formal health and safety qualifications and sector-specific training.
  • Strong communication skills across written, verbal, and visual mediums.
