About H.W. Martin Safety Fencing Limited

H W Martin Safety Fencing Limited (est. 1987) provides specialist vehicle restraint system services to the highways industry. Our client base includes Highways England, local authorities and the UKs major construction companies.

The role will be primarily based at our regional depot and operating base at J18 on the M4, near Bristol but the successful candidate will be required to travel to various areas of the country to coordinate and oversee deliverable works with VRS teams. Occasional client meetings via Teams and in person will be required to develop upcoming schemes at early planning stages and throughout scheme life cycles.

Our position as a leading, national provider of VRS services for the most prestigious Clients in the industry will heighten and promote your own profile within the highway sector of the construction industry.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Ensure that safe working practices and Health and Safety legislation are adhered to on site. The successful candidate will liaise closely with our Health and Safety Professionals to ensure full compliance with all company and legislative requirements.
  • Operational site management of a diverse team of both direct and sub-contracted staff. Engage and inspire the workforce.
  • Weekly planning and programming extracted from longer term programme recognition and requirement. Organisation of allocated resources to carry out contracted works. Ensuring that the works are completed safely, to the required quality, on time and within budget. Maintaining discipline in the workforce.
  • Planning, sequencing and methodology of work and implementation of safe systems of work. Communication of the sequence and methods to the Workforce. Work closely with contracts managers to identify any requirement for Hired Plant and small plant and equipment. Site Logistics (e.g. vehicles, plant, deliveries, TM etc.).
  • Understand the wider team. A good level of engagement and support to the team will be essential as will the recognition of individuals strengths and weaknesses. We adopt an inclusive ethic, it is a small, but growing team and everyone needs to fulfil their potential to continue to be successful.

Experience and Qualifications required:

  • The successful candidate will be experienced in working within the highways construction sector and will have experience of managing and coordinating people and activities in a site setting.
  • Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) Gold Card essential. Other qualifications e.g. SSSTS, SMSTS, CPCS etc desirable.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to discuss, define and communicate complex ideas to any audience.
  • Elements of the role will be Client facing. As a specialist subcontractor, collaboration and liaison will be key skills to possess and are what our Clients demand. Building relationships, gaining trust and respect with our Clients is a key objective.
  • Self-motivation and efficient time management skills essential.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office tools such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook.
  • Enthusiastic and energetic with an ambition to learn, share skills and develop.
