Location: Bristol OR Stevenage (hybrid working - 3 days per week onsite)

Role details:

Your role is to ensure that both safety and reliability cases are rigorously constructed and aligned with customer needs. You will work to balance time, cost, and technical constraints, providing essential evidence for system safety and reliability that meets or exceeds expectations.

  • Safety Focus: You'll optimise safety assurance efforts, striking the right balance between ensuring the safety of the system and addressing the inherently lethal nature of complex weapon systems.
  • Reliability Focus: You'll be dedicated to ensuring the reliability of the system through a lean but effective reliability programme, incorporating progressive assurance and testing efforts throughout the development process.

You'll collaborate with a team that has a strong track record in delivering safety and reliability engineering, within an organisation renowned for its commitment to safety culture. Your work will span a diverse range of projects, offering you both international exposure and the chance to deepen your technical expertise.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Integrate hazard analysis and safety evaluation processes seamlessly into the system engineering lifecycle.
  • Deliver comprehensive supporting documents including Safety Case Reports, Hazard Analysis, Functional Failure Analysis (FFA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Failure Modes, Effects, and Criticality Analysis (FMECA), reliability predictions, and more.
  • Understand that reliability is more than just a number and provide expertise in reliability planning, analysis, and testing through all stages of development.
  • Apply UK and international system engineering processes effectively, ensuring alignment with industry standards and best practices.
  • Leverage your knowledge of complex electronic systems and safety/reliability challenges to deliver successful outcomes.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills and the ability to influence stakeholders across multi-disciplinary, multinational groups.
  • Provide analytical insights and problem-solving expertise, while communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.

What We're Looking For:

  • Extensive experience in hazard analysis and safety evaluation, with a strong understanding of how these processes integrate with the broader system engineering approach.
  • Proven ability to deliver critical safety and reliability documents such as Safety Case Reports, FFA, FTA, FMECA, and reliability predictions.
  • A deep appreciation that reliability is more than just metrics, with experience in planning, analysing, and testing for reliability throughout the development cycle.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in applying UK and international system engineering processes.
  • Strong understanding of complex electronic systems and the safety/reliability challenges they present.
  • Proven success working as an effective team member with strong interpersonal and influencing skills.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Ideally, you hold a degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant field.

Benefits:

  • Competitive salary commensurate with experience
  • Relocation package available for the right candidate
  • Opportunities for continued professional development
  • Collaborative and supportive work environment
  • International project work and exposure to advanced defence technologies
