Classroom assistant - Mental Health / SEN

A local primary school is urgently recruiting for a Teaching Assistant - SEN to support on a 1:1 basis for a Year 4 student with Autism/ASD. This child struggles to communicate and is selective non-verbal, due to a lack of social confidence, and has been withdrawing in the classroom.

  • £85.33 - £96.15 per day, depending on experience
  • Full-time, Monday - Friday 8.30am to 4pm
  • Term time only
  • Bristol - BS11

The Lawrence Weston / Shirehampton school is seeking a classroom assistant to be 1:1 with the student Monday - Friday, 08:30am - 12:30pm. For the rest of the time you will be supporting other SEN students with interventions.

Classroom assistant - Mental Health / SEN daily duties:

  • Collaborating with the Year 4 class teacher and other experienced staff members
  • Manage challenging behaviours that may arise, training and techniques will be given.
  • 1:1 (one-to-one) teaching support, where you may have to adapt the task to the child's needs/interests to communicate the information.
  • Identify potential triggers for the pupils in regard to their trauma and mental health needs

The right candidate

  • Maths and English at GCSE - Minimum grade 4/C
  • Experience supporting children with SEN.
  • A passion for working inclusively with children with additional needs, especially ASD, ADHD, and Non-Verbal.
  • A nurturing and patient approach to supporting children's unique needs.
  • DBS Check required (We can assist with this).
