We are seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join our supportive team. This role is ideal for individuals who have a genuine interest in working with pupils from social care backgrounds and can relate deeply to the challenges they face. While previous experience as a Teaching Assistant is not required, experience in sports coaching, personal experience in the social care system, or professional experience with challenging behaviours is highly beneficial. A driving licence is essential as the role includes collecting the pupil from home, transporting them to school, and taking them to offsite activities.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Provide 1:1 support to pupils who come from social care backgrounds, focusing on their emotional and educational needs.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with the pupils, acting as a positive role model.
  • Implement behavioural management strategies that support a nurturing and safe learning environment.
  • Collaborate with teachers and other school staff to tailor learning approaches to individual needs.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Facilitate social and emotional learning activities that enhance pupils’ resilience and well-being.
  • Monitor and report on the progress of pupils, providing feedback and suggesting further support strategies as needed.
  • Drive pupils to and from school and to various offsite activities, ensuring their safety and punctuality.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Strong ability to relate to and empathise with children facing social and emotional challenges.
  • Background in sports coaching, experience in social care, or personal experience within the social care system is highly advantageous.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage challenging behaviour constructively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to professional growth and development in the field of education and child support.
  • A proactive, patient, and caring approach to educational support.
  • Valid driving licence and a good driving record.
