Our client are looking for a Electrical Engineer for a permanent contract based in Bristol.

This role focuses on electrical engineering within high voltage (HV) renewables or utilities industries, with a broad set of responsibilities. Here's a breakdown of the key duties and qualifications necessary for success:



Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Project Support:

    • Assist the Project Engineer and Senior Project Engineer with technical electrical deliverables for the project.
    • Provide technical support for equipment layouts, single-line diagrams, cable schedules, and design packages (including calculations, testing, and commissioning).
  2. Interface Management:

    • Manage the interfaces of electrical engineering within the project scope, liaising with suppliers and manufacturers on design, installation, and commissioning processes.
  3. Procurement Process:

    • Support the Procurement Manager in managing procurement by obtaining competitive tenders from suppliers and assisting with technical submissions and queries.
    • Attend factory acceptance tests as required.
  4. Team Coordination:

    • Work closely with the Design Engineer and Project Engineer to define roles and responsibilities within the project team.
    • Assist with the selection of design consultants, equipment suppliers, and subcontractors, including obtaining competitive tenders.
  5. Safety and Compliance:

    • Ensure adherence to safe work systems and statutory safety rules (e.g., HV Safety Rules).
    • Produce Non-Conformance Reports for any technical deviations and track compliance with safety and engineering standards.
  6. Site Inspections and Audits:

    • Attend site coordination meetings and conduct inspections or audits to ensure quality and progress.
    • Oversee the commercial aspects of the project, ensuring statutory requirements are met.
  7. Commissioning Support:

    • Submit relevant project requirements and technical data to the Commissioning Manager for the commissioning process.
    • Manage and review simulation studies related to generation connections, ensuring compliance with industry standards (e.g., Distribution Code, Grid Code).
  8. HV Switching Operations (Optional):

    • Opportunity to take part in HV switching operations and work towards authorization as an Authorised Person (AP) or Senior Authorised Person (SAP).

Key Requirements for Success:

  1. Qualifications:

    • Degree, HND in Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
    • Alternatively, an equivalent qualification in electrical engineering is acceptable.
  2. Experience:

    • At least 3 years of relevant experience in electrical engineering, specifically in the HV renewables or utilities sectors.
    • Experience supporting technical electrical projects in HV settings.
  3. Technical Skills:

    • Ability to review, design, and assess electrical systems in compliance with standards.
    • Familiarity with technical documentation, including calculations, design packages, and system testing.
  4. Communication and Leadership:

    • Strong communication skills to interact effectively across all project levels and influence outcomes.
    • Capable of working well under pressure and meeting deadlines.
  5. Compliance and Engineering Analysis:

    • Adept at identifying and addressing compliance issues or engineering opportunities within designs.
    • Proficient in prioritizing tasks and managing time under multiple project pressures.
  6. Other Requirements:

    • Eligible to work within the UK without limitations.
    • Willingness to travel across the UK with occasional overnight stays.
    • Full UK driving license.
