ME Tool Design Engineer

Location and duration
Filton – 12 month rolling contract x1 then 6 months rolling
Role purpose
To support the Tool Design Engineering Group Leader in The Tool Design Engineer will be expected provide their specialist support across all work streams, whilst working to GKNAF procedures and standards.
Key Responsibilities
• Maintain the assembly build jigs and support the tooling philosophy to ensure alignment with the manufacturing process and build philosophy
• Ensure up to date with technical knowledge, including tool recertification requirements, ICY requirements relating to tooling, lifting and handling regulations applicable to tooling
• Project manage the design phase on tooling projects, ensuring capture of all lessons learnt from previous projects
• Develop storage and transportation fixtures concepts to ensure concepts support the capability and rate capacity
• Compile and support data exchange forms and monitor through data exchange process
• Record all tooling data movements between GKN, tooling supply base and customer
• Provide drawings and support engineers
• Support Tooling Engineering Group Leader with changes to Tooling Procedures
• Ensure compliance with all risk assessments and company Environment, Health & Safety Procedures relevant to all work activities including jig and tool. Report all incidents, accidents and near misses as per the company’s procedure and implementation of identified corrective actions. Maintain good standards of housekeeping in designated work area(s)
• Champion ‘Export Control’ compliance activities, ensuring adherence to the site ‘Technology Control Plan (TCP)’, guaranteeing compliance with Export Control Regulations, controls, training and systems.
Essential
In depth knowledge of Technical Drawing procedures, practices and GD&T is required Microsoft Office i.e. Word and Excel Excellent written and verbal communication skills Strong desire to innovate Inter-personnel and influencing skills Highly motivated and creative
Desirable
• Catia V4/5 Autocad CADDS 5 In depth knowledge of GKNAF vaulting and data exchange processes.
• Knowledge of assembly processes
• Experience in tooling production for aerospace industry
• Sound understanding of aircraft product design and assembly process
• Understand requirements of technical files
• SAP literate – be able to read TDF’s etc. within the SAP system.
• Export Control understanding and regulatory requirements
