A leading commercial law firm is seeking a Client and Matter Inception Manager to join its dynamic Risk and Best Practice Department. This is a unique opportunity to play a pivotal role in supporting and shaping the firm's client and matter onboarding processes, enabling the delivery of exceptional service across a range of sectors including housing, local government, health, construction, energy, higher education, and financial services.

About the Role

As the Client and Matter Inception Manager, you’ll take ownership of client and matter onboarding and lead a team dedicated to anti-money laundering (AML) and due diligence. Your responsibilities will include enhancing systems and processes, managing AML monitoring, and advising internal teams. In this key role, you will:

  • Oversee client onboarding processes, driving improvements in efficiency and compliance.

  • Supervise the AML due diligence team, providing guidance and support.

  • Collaborate with management, finance, and legal teams to enhance the firm's client and matter inception (CMI) processes.

  • Lead efforts to ensure data quality, timely processing, and optimal performance in client onboarding systems.

  • Manage conflicts of interest, working closely with the Risk & Best Practice team to refine systems and policies.

  • Provide training on AML and financial crime issues to legal and support staff.

Qualifications and Skills

  • In-depth knowledge of UK AML regulations and client identification practices.

  • Excellent communication and report-writing skills with confidence in interacting with senior managers.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and leadership skills.

  • Attention to detail, excellent record-keeping, and supervisory experience in a client onboarding function.

  • Experience with client/matter onboarding software systems and familiarity with the legal sector is desirable.
