Consultant Psychiatrist – Female Acute Inpatient Ward

About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Psychiatrist to join a highly respected mental health service in Bristol, specialising in acute inpatient care for females. The role involves taking clinical responsibility for a 10-bedded female acute inpatient ward, working closely with patients referred primarily by the NHS.
This prestigious post combines clinical leadership with the opportunity to work alongside a skilled multidisciplinary team, including a dedicated Specialty Doctor. The Consultant Psychiatrist will play a pivotal role in delivering exceptional patient care and contributing to service development within a supportive and dynamic environment.
The Setting
Nestled within an 18th-century country residence, the hospital is surrounded by beautiful parkland and located just minutes from the M32, with excellent transport links to the M4 and M5 motorways. With 77 beds across seven specialist wards, the service encompasses a variety of care settings, including eating disorders, acute mental health, psychiatric intensive care, and acquired brain injury.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide consultant-level care to patients on the female acute ward.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure the delivery of personalised, evidence-based care.
- Supervise and support junior medical staff.
- Lead clinical governance and contribute to quality improvement initiatives.
- Work with management to drive service enhancements.
Qualifications and Experience
- CCST/CCT (or equivalent) in Psychiatry.
- MRCPsych or equivalent qualification.
- AC and S12 approval under the Mental Health Act 1983.
- Current GMC registration with a license to practise and inclusion on the specialist register.
- Significant experience as a Consultant Psychiatrist in the NHS, with a focus on acute inpatient and outpatient care.
- Proven leadership skills within a multidisciplinary team.
- Experience in supervising junior staff and contributing to service change and improvement.
- Active involvement in clinical governance and service development initiatives.
