Hours: 37.5 per week.

About the Facility:


This highly regarded psychiatric hospital in Bristol houses 77 beds across eight diverse wards, providing specialised care in areas such as Eating Disorders, Acute Mental Health, Adult Psychiatric Intensive Care, Huntington’s Disease, and Dementia.

The Mixed Acute Ward is a 10-bed mixed-gender adult ward, designed to support NHS patients nationwide during times of crisis. Patients with mental health conditions such as psychosis, depression, personality disorders, and more are admitted for stays ranging from a few days to several months. Care is delivered by a dedicated multidisciplinary team, including nurses, healthcare assistants, specialty doctors, consultants, psychologists, and occupational therapists, within a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

The Role:
This is a unique opportunity for a skilled Ward Manager to lead the Mixed Acute Ward team. Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing nursing staff rotas and ensuring effective e-rostering standards.
  • Serving as a highly visible role model, mentor, and leader, fostering a culture of learning, development, and professionalism.
  • Taking decisive action to ensure the highest standard of patient care.
  • Leading recruitment and retention efforts for the ward and hospital.
  • Conducting and completing clinical investigations, complaints, and HR-related inquiries promptly and to a high standard.
  • Ensuring compliance with the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, and Deprivation of Liberties frameworks.
  • Overseeing Medicines Management within the ward and ensuring all Registered Nurses complete competency-based assessments.

Essential Qualifications and Skills:

  • Registration with the Nursing Midwifery Council (NMC) as a first-level nurse or with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
  • At least two years of supervisory experience within a relevant care setting.
  • Relevant registration or experience applicable to the ward.
  • Commitment to completing further clinical, managerial, and leadership training.
