Positive Employment is currently recruiting for a Principal Health and Safety Consultant for our client a local government organisation in Bristol.
The successful post holder will provide professional support to all employees and non-employees (such as, volunteers, contractors, stakeholders, service users etc) on a common and consistent approach to all health and safety matters, aligned with IOSH’s values, using a holistic approach.
Support the Head of Natural and Marine Environment in the provision of, and embedding, communication, consultation, participation, maintenance and monitoring of, Parks and Harbour Service specific safety management our occupational health and safety management system to ensure the prevention of occupational injury/ ill health, improved performance / culture / participation, and compliancy.
This is initially a 6 month contract with the possibility to extend after that date. This role is hybrid working, with 4 days a week on site.
Duties and Responsibilities but not limited to:
- Lead on, develop and deliver a prioritised and resourced work programme.
- Take a lead on implementing the Health and Safety Management Systems across Parks and Harbour service areas.
- Act as an internal consultant to advise and coach managers on their responsibilities for health and safety duties, providing guidance and practical solutions to ensure legal compliance and best practice.
- Communicate, consult, and share best practice across all directorates to improve consistency and performance to include providing expert opinion on any matter’s health and safety related.
- Undertake specific/specialist assessments (including HAV/NOISE) and advise/support managers through the risk assessment process at an operational level.
- Ensure all accidents/incidents/near misses are properly reported internally and externally where necessary, and investigated, in accordance with internal policy and legislation.
- Take a lead in the development of a health and safety offer for service users.
- Be responsible for delivering allocated projects.
- Be responsible for specific corporate health and safety areas of expertise.
- Work with/ and support internal services and managers in supporting operational health and safety and matters to support a safe, healthy, and supportive, legally compliant work environment and work activities.
Personal Requirements:
- Must hold a NEBOSH Diploma qualification and have membership of a UK health and safety professional body.
- Experience of providing specialist health and safety advice and guidance to a range of services users, customers and colleagues including senior managers.
- Chartered Membership or Equivalent of a professional body (Desirable).
- Experience of working in a Local Authority and unionized environment and ability to consult and negotiate to achieve desired outcomes (Desirable).
Working Hours: 37hrs / 9:00am - 17:30pm / Monday to Friday
Pay: £350.00 per day
