Job Title: Senior Care Assistant

The Senior Care Assistant is responsible for providing high-quality care and support to residents, leading and mentoring junior care staff, and ensuring that all care is delivered in accordance with individual care plans. The role involves supervising daily activities, administering medication, and maintaining a safe and comfortable environment for residents.
Key Responsibilities:
Resident Care:
- Provide personalized care to residents, assisting with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, feeding, and mobility.
- Administer medications as prescribed and monitor residents for any side effects or changes in condition.
- Develop and maintain individualized care plans for residents, ensuring that their physical, emotional, and social needs are met.
- Assist with end-of-life care, providing comfort and support to residents and their families.
Leadership and Supervision:
- Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of care assistants, ensuring that care is delivered to a high standard.
- Delegate tasks to junior care staff and ensure they are completed efficiently and effectively.
- Provide training and support to new care assistants, helping them to develop their skills and knowledge.
- Conduct performance reviews and provide feedback to care staff, promoting continuous improvement.
Communication and Documentation:
- Communicate effectively with residents, families, and healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated and comprehensive care.
- Accurately document care provided, including daily observations, medication administration, and any changes in residents conditions.
- Participate in care planning meetings and contribute to the development of care strategies.
- Report any concerns or incidents to the appropriate management personnel promptly.
Health and Safety:
- Ensure that all care practices adhere to health and safety regulations and infection control procedures.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for residents.
- Assist in risk assessments and implement care plans to minimize risks to residents and staff.
- Respond to emergencies in a calm and efficient manner, following established protocols.
Professional Development:
- Stay updated on best practices in elderly care, dementia care, and other relevant areas.
- Participate in ongoing training and development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
- Support the professional development of junior care staff by providing guidance and mentoring.
Qualifications:
- NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent qualification.
- Previous experience in a care setting, with a minimum of [X] years of experience as a Care Assistant.
- Certification in medication administration and basic life support (BLS).
- A valid driving license may be required depending on the location and nature of the role.
