A large secondary school in South Gloucestershire is looking for a specialist teaching assistant to support students that have additional needs. Most of the pupils have an EHCP (Education, Health and Care Plan) or are applying for one. The school has an inclusion unit where specific lessons take place and individualised support takes place.
The Role
You will be supporting pupils to develop positive self-regulation skills and improve their engagement with core curriculum subjects. You will lead some one-to-one activities, under the guidance of the SENDCo. Pupils will have established targets which you will be working towards in collaboration with other staff.
Main Responsibilities
- Support individual pupils to develop positive self-regulation skills
- Manage challenging behaviour following the school's approach
- Deliver planned interventions
- Ensure pupil safety and welfare is maintained at all times
- Feedback to SENDCo
Essential Criteria
- Prior experience working with young people
- Remain calm in challenging situations
- Build trusting relationships
- Good listening skills
- Ability to adapt and use own initiative
- Patience and resilience
Desirable Criteria
- Team Teach training/experience
- Education/Teaching Assistant qualification
