Technical Support Technician - Defence and Military Systems - Permanent - Attractive - South-West

A Technical Support Technician is required to join an International Defence Systems company that designs, manufactures, and supports world leading Military Systems. The successful Technical Support Technician will be part of a team and be support the engineering investigative tasks and knowledge to operations delivery of new and refurbished products.

The Technical Support Technician team support new product introduction activities and new process definition in close liaison with the engineering design authority. The team provide Technical Support throughout the product life-cycle including defect investigation and product repair as required. The Technical Support Technician role reports into the Team Lead and with training, experience and evidence of ownership may lead to progression to the full engineering role.

This Technical Support Technician may require some International travel to support overseas activities. When necessary, candidates will be expected to work additional hours as the job requires to achieve internal and customer deadlines.

Technical Support Technician will be responsible for the following:

  • Support design and programs with introduction of new products and production processes.
  • Supporting cross training within the team and the business.
  • Generate assembly, disassembly and function test documentation and working instructions.
  • Complete the mechanical assembly or disassembly and testing of components, sub-assemblies and a range of products including mechanisms, hydro-pneumatic systems and safety critical products.
  • Support continuous improvements activities within technical support.
  • Maintain a high standard of housekeeping and cleanliness.
  • Undertake other additional duties that may be required from time to time as determined by the company and/or your Line Manager.
  • Working within commercial confidentiality security need to know principles and Trade Compliance (UK and ITAR) control plans.
  • Provide constructive feedback to improve our products and processes.

The Technical Support Technician should have the following Qualifications Skills or Experience:

  • Self-motivated, self-starter, able to work without supervision.
  • Willing to work additional hours when necessary to achieve agreed deadlines.
  • Good communicator, both written and verbal, internally and with suppliers and customers.
  • Able and willing to travel worldwide when necessary.
  • Able to use strong problem-solving skills and methodical in working practices.
  • A practical 'hands on' approach, comfortable working with high value, precision components.
  • Able to produce quality output and accurate documentation to agreed standards.
  • Able to test hydro-pneumatic components and systems.
  • Able to use standard measuring equipment such as micrometers, verniers, etc.
  • Able to interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Able to support activities with defect and quality concerns such as 8D investigation methodologies.
  • Health and safety aware - adhere to safety policy at all times.
  • Have a positive attitude to continuous professional development.
  • Possess a clean valid UK driving licence.
  • Computer literate, including use of some or all of Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.
  • Proven ability to operate 5S principles within the workplace.
  • Lean six sigma training to a recognised level is an advantage.
  • Experience in the Defence or Military sector is highly desirable.
  • Experience working in industries such as defence, aerospace or automotive is highly desirable.

**Security Clearance (SC) may be required due to the nature of the Defence products involved**
