Principal Systems Engineer – Architecture
Bristol or Barrow-in-Furness, 2 days per fortnight onsite (can be flexible) – 12 month duration – Pay rate £58.00 PAYE (£66.43 PAYE including holiday pay) or £78.33 p/h Umbrella
We are looking for a Principal Systems Engineer to work for our large defence client based in either Barrow, Cumbria or Filton, Bristol. This will be a hybrid role working circa 2 days per fortnight from the office with the remainder from home.
You will support submarine programmes through the formalised application of modelling to support system requirements, design, analysis verification and validation activities beginning in the Strategy and/or Concept Creation Phases and continuing throughout all subsequent phases. You will provide subject matter expertise and advice to other functional capability areas to support overall project delivery and performance.
Responsibilities:
• Provide specialist knowledge and subject matter expertise in the model based approach to developing Submarine systems.
• Identify the need for, develop, communicate and maintain models supporting the entire engineering lifecycle.
• Understand and articulate the impact of their models on other areas of the submarine platform.
• Ensure design proving evidence is comprehensive, captured within the requirements management tools and has been endorsed by the appropriate level of authority.
• Understand and support the flow-down of requirements to suppliers and acceptance of their specific deliverables, ensuring it is captured and recorded appropriately.
• Support the documentation of domain knowledge and be able to pass on information and expertise in order to help grow the knowledge base within appropriate business teams.
• Provide technical guidance to other engineers and support the engineering management team in planning and controlling specialist activities .
• Deliver compliant technical solutions against contractual requirements and regulations.
• Leverage MBSE experience and knowledge in both the tactical and strategic development of other engineers and relevant members of other supporting functions.
Requirements:
• Proven ability with modelling tools such as EA Sparx.
• Decision management.
• Good understanding of the relevant maritime legislation, industry and defence standards.
• Understanding of the customer and user needs of the product system and how this will influence and impact design activities, technical and operational performance.
• Will be able to understand and report the programme status for engineering activities, identify problem areas and implement recovery plans. This will include the management of any consequent change embodiment activities.
• Working knowledge of major developments and changes in Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) across industry and academia and be aware of the direction of potential future technologies relevant to their team.
• Significant knowledge of the entire engineering lifestyle.

• Please note, due to the sensitive nature of the projects involved, all candidates must be capable of gaining a UK MOD Security Clearance to SC level. If you are not currently SC cleared the client will sponsor a new application and you can start once this is granted.
• This role shall operate inside IR35.
