My client South Gloucestershire Council are looking for a Paralegal Assistant.
We are looking for approx. 22 hours per week, days to be mutually agreed. Assignment to last approx. 3 months initially, with a view to extending.
Work that assignment will cover:
- Advise social workers on the Re X process to authorise a deprivation of liberty in the community and filing the application with the court.
- Keep a record of the progress of cases filed with the court, the orders made and follow this up with social workers to ensure that the Local Authority complies with court orders.
- Assist solicitors by completing applications to the court under section 16 Mental Capacity Act 2005 for welfare orders, updating bundles, e-filing orders, obtaining sealed orders and actioning court directions.
- Undertake legal research for solicitors and provide advice to the client department on care and support, mental health law and education law.
- Attend round table meetings and court hearings with counsel, where necessary.
Experience Required
- The candidate will have a law degree or CILEx level 6 Diploma in Law and Practice or relevant post-graduate qualification.
- Experience of working in a legal department, with particular emphasis on adult social care work, mental capacity issues or education law, ideally in a Local Authority setting.
- Knowledge of Adult Social Care law and court processes - essential.
- Able to work as part of a team under pressure within tight timescales and have the ability to build and maintain positive working arrangements with colleagues, clients and all other relevant parties.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as, excellent organisational and IT skills
