As the business continues to scale, this role will be instrumental in ensuring that vendors and suppliers can effectively support its expansion. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing a robust procurement strategy, optimising supplier relationships, and implementing best practices to drive efficiency, cost savings, and sustainability.
This role is particularly suited to a candidate with experience in sheet metal, fabrication, folding, welding, or metal bashing. Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and manage a vendor accreditation, scorecard, and supplier management process, ensuring that 80% of spend is directed towards the top-performing 20% of suppliers.
- Ensure all suppliers meet the necessary criteria to support growth objectives, introducing advanced trading techniques, technology, and sustainable funding options.
- Develop strategic sourcing plans for each commodity category.
- Establish and manage a preferred supplier list, ensuring the efficient distribution of spend and cost savings.
- Negotiate total landed costs with suppliers, considering price, payment terms, lead times, quality, and strategic advantages.
- Work closely with the materials management team to ensure supplier pricing agreements are accurately applied.
- Monitor market trends, raw material indices, and supplier performance to identify opportunities for cost reduction and process improvements.
- Conduct contract reviews to ensure compliance and mitigate risks.
- Lead and mentor the procurement team, enhancing skills and professional development.
- Provide procurement reports to senior management, outlining key performance indicators and strategic initiatives.
- Keep abreast of industry best practices and regulatory changes to ensure a competitive and compliant procurement function.
Person Specification:
- CIPS qualification (Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply) is highly desirable.
- Experience in procurement or supply chain management, preferably within sheet metal, fabrication, folding, welding, or metalworking industries.
- Strong negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Proficiency in procurement software and tools.
- Experience in developing detailed product supply strategies aligned with business objectives.
