Our client is a fast growing food manufacturer based in Bristol. They are currently looking for a full time, permanent Site Operations Manager to be based at their Bristol factory.

The Site Operations Manager will be responsible for organising and overseeing the manufacturing of their products, as well as for the smooth running of all production lines and the quality of output. The goal is to ensure an efficient and productive manufacturing process that meets customer requirements.

Duties:

Factory Leadership and Operational Management

  • Oversee all aspects of day-to-day production and site operations, ensuring output, efficiency and quality targets are met
  • Be hands-on on the factory floor to monitor production, support the team, and resolve issues in real time
  • Lead and develop a production team through clear communication, training, and performance management to build a motivated, high-performing workforce
  • Collaborate with key departments to ensure seamless operations
  • Implement and improve systems to control stock, reduce waste, and maintain cost efficiency
  • Monitor production metrics and KPIs, making adjustments as necessary to ensure targets are met

Health, Safety & Quality Compliance

  • Ensure the factory complies with all health, safety and environmental regulations
  • Develop and implement safety policies and procedures across all areas of the factory
  • Organise and lead regular safety training sessions for all staff members to ensure compliance and awareness
  • Conduct regular safety audits, identify risks, and implement preventative measures
  • Foster a culture of safety awareness, encouraging proactive identification and reporting of potential risks
  • Ensure strict adherence to BRC AA standards and maintain ongoing compliance with food safety requirements

Process Improvement & Machinery Management

  • Assess current processes and implement strategies to improve productivity, reduce downtime, and optimise workflows
  • Oversee equipment maintenance and ensure all machinery is operating effectively; work with engineers and external suppliers to resolve technical issues
  • Play a key role in establishing and optimising new processes as the business scales

Payroll Data Management

  • Review staff working hours, attendance records, and sickness/absence logs to ensure accurancy
  • Provide HR with timely and accurate payroll data
  • Proactively address any discrepancies in attendance or timesheets

Cost Management

  • Manage the factory's budget, including labour, materials, and overhead costs
  • Identify areas for cost reduction and efficiency improvements without compromising quality
  • Monitor inventory levels and implement cost-effective procurement practices to control spending

Communication & Reporting

  • Provide regular updates and reports to senior management on production performance, issues, and achievements
  • Communicate effectively with other departments, such as sales, logistics, and R&D, to ensure alignment and support for production goals

Requirements

  • Significant experience in a managerial role within a food manufacturing environment
  • Proven experience managing teams, production schedules, and factory processes in both large-scale and small-scale operations
  • Solid understanding of BRC standards (including achieving and maintaining BRC AA compliance) and food manufacturing machinery
  • Demonstrated success in driving process improvements, achieving operational efficiency, and managing costs
  • Knowledge of health, safety and environmental compliance standards e.g. HACCP
  • Strong experience with budget management, cost control, and procurement
