Mechanical Engineer

Bristol - Hybrid Working - 2 days on site per fortnight

You will be joining the Mechanical Engineering Discipline group who deliver crucial ship services, and crew life support capabilities, equipment and componentry for the current and next generation of Nuclear Submarines.

What the role of the Mechanical Engineer entails:

Some of the main duties of the Mechanical Engineer will include:

  • Leveraging your Mechanical Engineering experience, to lead development of mechanical engineering systems, equipment and components as part of a nuclear submarine
  • Work with other engineers, suppliers and manufacturing teams to deliver mechanical engineering systems, equipment and components which integrate in to a complex array of cross-functional interactions
  • Engaging and building relationships with suppliers to develop and capture equipment and component specifications that meet the challenging demands of the product
  • Working directly with the customer to develop requirements and acceptance criteria based on operational scenarios, use cases and other design considerations
  • Taking lead for performing and reviewing engineering calculations and analysis to make decisions and demonstrate system performance
  • Co-ordinating, managing and leveraging a wide stakeholder base to solve complex engineering problems and make responsible engineering decisions

What experience you need to be the successful Mechanical Engineer:

  • Mechanical Engineering background in Rotator Machinery, Components or Fluid Dynamics
  • Experience of applying mechanical engineering in different products / or at different stages of a product lifecycle
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers
  • Ability to prioritise workload
  • An interest in problem solving
  • Ability to solve complex engineering calculations
  • Educated to Degree level in Engineering, Mechanical or Science Subjects
