Head of Planning

We are currently working with a Local Authority in the South West who are looking to recruit a Head of Planning to lead and oversee a strategic planning function, ensuring delivery meets the statutory duties of the authority and contributes to the economic, social and environmental

Job: Head of Planning

Duration: 6 months +

Rate: £750 via Umbrella Company, Inside IR35

Site presence: 2 days on-site per week (minimum)

Duties

• Strategically lead the range of planning functions in a co-ordinated manner on a day-to-day basis, ensuring that the service delivers modern, efficient and effective outcomes for all areas of the Council and actively contributes to the delivery of the Council’s Priorities
• Assist the Director in the strategic leadership of all aspects of the strategic planning functions and department including deputising for the Director as required
• Take strategic responsibility for large revenue and staff budgets and locally funded capital investment programmes, and lead in ensuring that the council’s statutory planning services and duties are met
• Act as lead officer and professional planning advisor for the Planning Committee
• Work collaboratively with senior officers of the Council, its elected members and other partners, statutory bodies and local authorities to achieve agreed outcomes
• Lead and develop key partnerships with strategic delivery to achieve objectives relating to place-making, and delivery of customer-focused cost effective service solutions for all aspects of the service

Requirements

• Proven ability of leadership at senior level within a Local Authority of key development management and planning policy functions covered by the role
• Must be MRTPI qualified
• Ideally candidates will have experience of using UNIFORM systems
