Product Manager

This global manufacturing organisation offer the opportunity to join their established, friendly and successful team in Bristol as a product manager or technical manager who would report in the Global capture leader also based in the Bristol site.

Responsibilities for the product manager or technical manager

  • Constructing product roadmap for Engineered Product lines, identifying product gaps, and defining required developments in order to improve market share.
  • Understanding customer value propositions and translating into product developments.
  • manage a portfolio of products
  • Drive and support global launches of products internally within the business
  • Developing product pricing and positioning strategies.
  • Build value proposition maps for current and new products.
  • Analyse technical trends from customer projects and react appropriately by defining required product development.
  • Occasional travel to customer sites in Europe and sometimes Asia may be required time, so the ability to have some flexibility and the ability to travel abroad is required.

Maintaining Product Roadmap

  • Engage with the wider business and customers to understand what the product requirements are.
  • Translate these into customer value propositions and then into development projects / plans, working with/as part of the Capture - Business Development Leadership team.
  • Build market cases for new product developments and encourage others to do so.
  • Translate analytics, data, and user feedback into actionable product plans.
  • Create strategic pricing for products.

Marketing

  • Generate new product launch plans.
  • B 2 B expertise contributing to developing markets for products and gaps in the market
  • Work with Regional Marketing Leaders and business developers to create content in line with the value proposition
  • Assess the quality of marketing material vs. value proposition and feedback from business development / sales

Product lifecycle

  • Analyse and provide strategic information to the business on margin, pricing regions etc.
  • Analysing the ROI of new product developments, assessing performance vs business case.

Knowledge, skills, qualifications and experience required for the product manager or technical manager:

  • Degree or equivalent in an Engineering or a Technical discipline combined with Marketing or a technical sales background or
  • A Marketing or Business degree combined with expertise and qualifications in engineering and or technical subject matter
  • Project Management qualification is useful (or the desire to obtain one)
  • Analytical Research skills including customer and market research
  • B 2 B expertise working for an engineering manufacturer
  • Relationship Management
  • Ability to take highly abstract organisational information and distil it into clear, compelling concepts for all stakeholders including non-technical audiences
  • Aptitude to "see the bigger picture", and prioritise roadmap decisions, which are built upon keeping a constant connection with the team, the business, the customer, and the wider market.

Useful to have:

  • Any working knowledge of a foreign languages e.g. German, Cantonese or Mandarin, Korean or Japanese are of particular interest
