We have an exciting opportunity for you to join a dynamic developer as an Estimator. You will play a critical role in ensuring the financial success of residential projects, from initial costing to tender submissions, with an opportunity to grow the team in the future around you. Reporting directly into the Commercial Director, as an Estimator, you will be someone who is experienced, detail-orientated with a methodical approach and strong organisational skills.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversees and updates key estimating documents, including the Land Appraisal documents, House Build Workbook, Abnormal Foundation Schedule, R&S Schedule, and similar resources.
  • Reviews and revises build costs based on approved sign-offs, ensuring preliminary rates reflect actual expenditure.
  • Collaborates with the land and sales teams to compile comprehensive Land Appraisals.
  • Prepares cost estimates for abnormal works within internal budgets, such as foundations, cut/fill, R&S, and retaining walls.
  • Develops and monitors a site profitability matrix to optimise layouts for cost efficiency and revenue potential.
  • Conducts ad hoc measurement and pricing tasks as required.
  • Compiles backup documentation and justifications for price notices.
  • Issues R&S, Groundworks, and Piling inquiries for new developments, supporting initial tender clarifications and analysis before passing them to the Quantity Surveyors as live site data.
  • Maintains and updates pricing for customer and sales extras.

Requirements

  • Detail-orientated Estimator with a methodical approach and strong organisational skills
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and relationship management skills
  • Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor/ Estimator, ideally with a strong focus on residential or housebuilding projects.
  • Solid knowledge of construction methods, materials, and processes.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the commercial and financial aspects of construction methods and sequences.
  • Broad financial, commercial, and technical knowledge.
  • Good understanding of industry codes of practice, including Building Regulations, NHBC requirements, and HSE standards.
  • Experience working with a developer or main contractor in the residential sector would be preferable
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to sites when required.
