The role of Accounts Controller is responsible for most aspects of running an accounts department, in charge of an Accounts Assistant, part of the Senior Management Team, reporting directly to the Managing Director. While there is a Financial Director in Europe within the group and an Auditor/ Consultant within the UK, contact with these is minimal.

Duties and Responsibilities
Accounts
- Oversee accuracy of posted transactions for the month. Prepare month-end journals including, Accruals, Prepayments, Fixed Assets etc.
- Maintain G/L account reconciliations and issue monthly reporting pack to MD and owners in Europe.
- Pack includes P&L, Balance Sheet, Cashflow statement and various KPIs. Handle monthly, quarterly and annual closings.
- Liaise with Auditors after year end.
- Maintain hours posted by each employee into AX time and attendance module, recording holidays etc.
- Monitor imported goods for Plastic Packaging Tax and keep appropriate records.
- Examine purchase ledger payment runs, expenses PAYE/Ni etc. prepared by Accounts Assistant before authorising payment through the bank.
- Attend monthly Team Leaders meeting to review companys performance etc.
- Prepare and submit quarterly VAT return including monitoring Postponed VAT Accounting arrivals throughout the month, and authorise in the bank.
- Budgets Prepare annual budgets and enter into group template.
- Other occasional tasks, e.g. complete any National Statistics Surveys, monitoring gas and electricity contracts.
- Help MD as and when, and any requests from other employees, e.g. with Ax problems and/or writing reports if requested such as cost analysis, stock usage.
Wages
- Each Monday compile hours, overtime, pension and healthcare worked by 18 weekly employees in previous week, send to Payroll Bureau for processing, verify completed payroll and authorise in bank.
- Each month compile hours, overtime, pension and healthcare worked by 14 monthly paid employees and send to Payroll Bureau for processing, verify completed payroll and authorise in bank.
- Compile monthly wage journals to post to Ax (Microsoft accounting software). Calculate new weekly holiday rates every quarter.
Banking
- Daily post previous day's bank entries in to Ax (accounts software) and reconcile bank.
- Fill in cash books.
- Process all payments in Ax and bank, including, P/L, expenses, monthly PAYE/NI and quarterly VAT to HMRC.
Purchase ledger
- Post supplier invoices to accounts system (approx. 185 a month), reconcile monthly statements, process payment runs.
Sales ledger
- Review debts, place customers On Stop, send out chase letters, liaise with solicitors if required. Run Monthly S/L Statements as Pdfs and email to Customers (approx. 200)
- Petty cash - Process any transactions.
KPIs
- Compile and issue weekly KPIs, processing various Ax reports in Excel
Requirements and skills
- Work experience as an Accountant.
- Knowledge of accounting regulations and procedures.
- Experience with general ledger functions.
- Confident in using computers, experience with accounting software and report writing.
- Advanced MS Excel skills including Vlookups and pivot tables.
- Strong attention to detail and good analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently.
