Learning Support Assistant - Special needs

Do you have experience working with challenging behaviour? Are you interested in supporting young people's Mental Health?

A PRU (Pupil Referral Unit) in north Bristol area is currently recruiting for a learning support assistant to join them ASAP. The PRU cater for children and young adults who have been excluded from mainstream education or are in a transition period before finding a place in a specialist setting.

About the role

  • Providing learning support KS2 to KS4 students who have trauma, SEN, behavioural disorders as well as other mental health issues.
  • 1:1 assistance for pupils with Special Needs and Challenging Behaviour and have learning disabilities such as Autism.
  • Working alongside fully trained therapists and psychologists as well as other professionals within the education/mental health field.
  • An excellent opportunity to expand your classroom experience prior to undertaking teacher training and becoming a fully qualified classroom teacher.

The right candidate

  • Experience working with children required
  • A graduate (2:2 or above - Psychology and Criminology desirable) or experienced teaching assistant / learning support assistant who is passionate about Special Educational Needs and Behavioural Needs
  • Candidates with previous experience in youth work, support work, mental health work and SEN in sport would also be suitable
