Job Summary

We are seeking suppportive and compassionate Teaching Assistants to support Teachers in Primary Schools in providing an enriching learning environment for children, particularly those with special educational needs.

The ideal candidate will have transferable skills or experience working with children and will be skilled in communicating effectively to foster understanding and engagement. Knowledge and awareness of special education needs will give a candidates a strong advantage. This role is vital in assisting with child care and ensuring that all students receive the attention they need to thrive.

Duties

  • Assist the lead teacher in implementing lesson plans and educational activities tailored to the needs of students.
  • Provide support to children with autism, ADHD and other special educational needs, ensuring their individual requirements are met.
  • Foster a safe and nurturing environment for children, promoting their social, emotional, and cognitive development.
  • Communicate effectively with children to encourage participation and understanding during lessons.
  • Help manage classroom behaviour by implementing positive reinforcement strategies.
  • Collaborate with teachers to assess student progress and adapt teaching methods as necessary.
  • Prepare classroom materials and assist in maintaining an organised learning space.
  • Engage in continuous professional development to enhance skills related to special education and child care.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children, particularly those with autism or special educational needs, is highly desirable but you can bring transferable skills from other industries or areas of your life.
  • Knowledge of early childhood education principles and practices.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively interact with children and staff.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment while also being capable of taking initiative when necessary.
  • A genuine passion for educating young children and supporting their development.
  • Relevant qualifications in education or child care would be an advantage but are not mandatory.
