Mental Health Support Assistant - Bristol (BS16)

A fantastic SEMH school in Bristol are looking for a Mental Health Support Assistant to help support their students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs. The children in the school have a range of mental health needs and therefore need someone who is caring, compassionate and up for a challenge!

  • ASAP Start
  • Full - Time - Monday-Friday, 8:30am - 3:30pm
  • Term time only
  • BS16 location, easily accessible by public transport

As a Mental Health Support Assistant, you will be supporting children with anxiety, trauma, OCD, depression, anger issues and attachment difficulties, as well as other additional needs such as Autism and ADHD. There is likely to be challenging behaviour as well as a lot of wellbeing needs, so you need to be proactive and flexible to cater to the needs of each child.

This is a role where no two days are the same! However, your general duties will involve working with small groups of pupils in the classroom, supporting both their emotional needs and learning needs. You will help boost their self-esteem, increase their independence and help them understand their emotions.

If you are a recent graduate and want to become an Educational Psychologist, this will offer you the vital experience needed to train in the future. As all the students have regular access to Psychologists and Therapists on-site at the school, you will get the chance to shadow them and see how they work with the pupils. You will also gain first-hand experience with children who have significant needs and learn how to communicate with and support them.

What we need from you

  • Maths and English GCSE grade A*-C / 9-4 or equivalent
  • Experience working with children - for example tutoring, coaching, mentoring, childcare, assisting in a nursery, or similar experience within a classroom.
  • Confident to converse with parents, students and members of the public
  • Resilient and confident to work with challenging behaviour
