Junior Software Engineer - Financial Services (Hybrid, North Bristol)

We are seeking a motivated and talented Junior Software Engineer to join our dynamic, multi-national financial services client based in North Bristol. This hybrid role offers a flexible working arrangement, with three days a week onsite.

As a Junior Software Engineer, you will collaborate with Product Owners, Team Leaders, and fellow Developers throughout the software development lifecycle. You'll play a key role in building innovative, high-performance systems for global financial institutions.

This role involves managing a variety of tasks simultaneously, where you'll prioritise effectively and contribute to the design and development of scalable solutions. You'll be encouraged to take ownership of your work while also seeking guidance and feedback from peers to ensure success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Full product lifecycle management, including gathering requirements, design, development, testing, and deployment.
  • Write and test code to create robust solutions that meet the performance and availability needs of global financial clients.
  • Maintain and improve existing systems, services, and in-house toolkits.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including developers and other departments.
  • Demonstrate a strong interest in software design and development practices.
  • Take responsibility for assigned features and functions, with the opportunity to learn and grow through guidance from senior team members.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Proficiency in object-oriented Java development.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a resourceful, independent approach to tackling challenges.
  • Excellent time management and communication skills.
  • A desire to learn and grow in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
  • Fluent in English (both written and verbal).

Desirable Skills:

  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies.
  • Experience with RESTful APIs, SQL, JavaScript, and web application servers.
  • Knowledge of BDD, TDD, continuous integration, and deployment.
  • Familiarity with frameworks such as Angular, CSS, and Spring.
