Senior Health and Safety Engineer
 
Location: Bristol
£40 p/hour umbrella. Site-Based & Office-Based
Initial 6-Month Contract
 
Carrington West is delighted to be supporting our prestigious client in their search for an experienced Senior Health and Safety Engineer. This critical role will ensure the highest standards of health and safety across highways schemes in the Bristol area. The successful candidate will play an integral part of the Principal Contractor's team, collaborating closely with colleagues and leadership.
 
Key Responsibilities:
·Health and Safety Implementation: Develop, implement, and oversee health and safety policies and procedures, ensuring full compliance with industry regulations.
·Risk Assessments & Method Statements: Write, check, and approve risk assessments, method statements, and construction phase plans. You'll be expected to create these documents from scratch, not just review existing ones.
·Site Audits: Conduct regular site audits to ensure adherence to safety protocols and legislation, but this is not an auditing-only role.
·Incident Investigations: Lead thorough site investigations following any incidents, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions.
 
About the Role:
·Duration: Initial 6-month contract with the likelihood of extension (total project duration is 2 years).
·Working Arrangement: The role requires a balance between site-based work and being in the office 4-5 days per week. Regular travel to site will be essential.
·Rate: £40/hour.
·Start Date: We are looking for someone who can start before Christmas.
 
Qualifications and Experience:
·NEBOSH Certificate/Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent.
·IOSH Membership or similar professional affiliation.
·Proven experience in a Health and Safety role within the construction industry, with the ability to write, develop, and implement key safety documents.
·Strong knowledge of current health and safety legislation, with a track record of implementing effective safety strategies.
·Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence and promote a safety-first culture across all levels of the organization.
