We are seeking an experienced Vehicle Fitter with a strong background in working on HGVs, trucks, refuse vehicles, municipal vehicles etc. This senior role is ideal for a professional who has experience supervising teams of technicians and mechanics within a workshop environment.

This will suit someone with experience as an HGV Technician or Fitter or with experience of working on a fleet of commercial vehicles.

Job Role

  • Repair mechanical and electrical system malfunctions, ensuring vehicle compliance with statutory legislation and performing preventative maintenance.
  • Troubleshoot breakdowns and conduct quality control inspections.
  • Lead, motivate, and direct the team, including task allocation, coaching, and development of apprentices.
  • Take responsibility for the efficient operation of the Workshop in the absence of the Fleet Controller.
  • Evaluate service and parts options to contain costs.
  • Compile job cards and maintain systems for recording fleet compliance records and workshop reports.
  • Ensure site facilities are secure during opening hours and take responsibility for securing the premises at the end of the shift.
  • Manage parts movements from stock and maintain a high standard of Brand image.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Practical experience in maintaining commercial vehicles
  • Qualifications in vehicle maintenance.
  • Experience working on recycling, waste and municipal vehicles beneficial
  • Demonstrable ability to lead, motivate, and direct a team of mechanics.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Full driving licence valid for use in the UK.
  • HGV Licence would be beneficial
