Director of People - St Monica Trust

Bristol c£100k + bonus + benefits - Hybrid role

St Monica Trust is a Bristol-based charity which has been helping older people in our region since 1925, they are celebrating their one hundredth year anniversary this year. They are committed to communities where older people flourish with a long-standing reputation for delivering exceptional care and support in their retirement villages and care homes, by providing opportunities for their residents to enjoy treasured relationships, exercise choice and feel valued. They call these their three Cs - Connection, Contribution and Choice.

They now have five care villages, all of which are purpose built to the highest standards and all of which are "havens". Each care village is a vibrant community of older people, mostly living independently in their own flats, and four of them include care homes with specialist dementia facilities.

They are now seeking a new Director of People, and who will be responsible for shaping and leading the Trust’s people strategy and culture to ensure a positive, inclusive, and high-performing organisation. The role oversees the People Directorate sub-departments ensuring that employees at all levels are engaged, supported, developed, and aligned with the Trust’s strategic plan. Reporting to the CEO, and a member of Executive Team, the role comes with full participation in collective decision making.

This role balances staffing efficiencies, colleague well-being, compliance with employment laws and regulations, and financial sustainability across the Trust. Leading on the People Directorate’s strategic plan, the Director of People oversees a suite of people policies and strategies encompassing employees, bank workers, volunteers and apprentices.

The People function needs to be transformative driving organisational strategy and growth, actively shaping organisational culture, designing the employee experiences and supporting leadership development to align talent with business objectives. By fostering this proactive approach, the People Directorate will enable the Trust to build capacity, build capability and improve productivity in an increasingly competitive and changing organisational landscape.

We are seeking:

  • An accreditation from the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), or a bachelor’s degree in human resources management, Psychology, or Business-related subject.
  • Experience as a senior leader with evidence of strong strategic thinking skills and results-oriented mindset.
  • Excellent knowledge of HR strategy and commercial insight, recruitment, engagement, cultural change, pay, reward and recognition, welfare, learning and development, HR systems and budgets.
  • Experience in developing and executing people strategy.
  • Excellent knowledge of employment legislation.
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of regulations, accepted professional standards, policies and procedures and legislation (including legislation on data protection, the Equality Act and health and safety.)
  • The ability to analyse and review HR data to identify trends.
  • Budget management skills.

Sector wise, we are interested to talk to candidates who have multi-site service sector experience gained within Professional Services. Education, Health, Social Care or a campus or retirement village environment.
